anyone use the sidebar?

Does anyone ever use my links list to the right of the page? I'm really crap at maintaining it and adding to it and I think one of the reasons is because it's got so much in it. Maybe I should drastically simplify it and just link to the blogs and links I think are of most interest. Would you be more likely to look at it if it just contained, say, ten links? Or should I leave it as it is? One of the things I like most about blogging is the notion of collaborative linking and passing on new stuff, and I get the feeling that I don't do that very well. Not that I get a lot of readers, but I'd like to point 'em somewhere interesting once in a while...

Never been here before, but the sidebar looks well organised. I'd move the list of essential blogs up a bit higher though, it takes too long to scroll down to that.

Never look at it, sorry. I do read a couple of blogs you link to though

archives are the most important bit - move them up to the top

I know what you mean about wanting to link to things and direct people to new sites or interesting articles / posts. Your sidebar's not that much different to mine, although mine's even longer. I suspect very few (if any) visitors to SWSL use my sidebar, but I certainly do, so that makes it worthwhile I guess. I'd keep it as it is, if you find it useful.

Like you I wonder what, if any, value blogrolls and the like have. I imagine that for regular readers it's all wallpaper, so it's really something for people stumbling across you for the first time.

So the profile's in the right place, then the podcasts as their important to you and having told people you're in a band, they might want to listen to something.

I'd move previous posts up, perhaps. 'Decent posts' is probably useful -- but do people bother? Your site stats will tell you I guess.

The blogroll is a little long so probably needs culling. (He said, in the manner of a turkey voting for Xmas.)

Actually I've just noticed that you appear twice in the blogroll, Stephen, so you're definitely due a trim :-)

If you're updating too and assuming we survive the trimming New Links has moved.

Personally I like big blogrolls - much more chance of seeing stuff you mightn't have seen otherwise.

One thing we do with our Blogroll is order it by the time the linked blogs are updated which means you only have to look at the top few to read new stuff.
