dinosaur vs. the pixies

News here that Dinosaur Jr are going to re-release their immense 'Freak Scene' this summer (what price it being a hit? nah, me neither) in the wake of their reforming. The link is of most interest for the little debate in the comments in the bottom, where people are arguing over who was the better band, The Pixies or Dinosaur. Absolutely no contest, I'm afraid.

Dinosaur Jr every time. The Pixies were far too inconsistent. Doolittle is great for the first half and then very patchy for the rest.

What's your favourite Dinosaur Jr album, just out of interest? Are you a pre-Lou-Barlow's-departure man? Personally I'm not - the early stuff is good, but Where You Been is the pinnacle as far as I'm concerned.

Yeah, I think I agree. I got into Dinosaur around the time of 'Green Mind', which I thought was amazing at the time, but wasn't really a patch on the two which preceded it or 'Where You Been', which blew me away when it came out. 'Get Me', in particular, is just incredible.

But 'You're Living All Over Me' and 'Bug' both run it close.

I remember thinking that Green Mind was really disappointing after Bug, but like Ben says Where You Been does show off what Mascis is all about.

As for the Pixies, everyone knows it has to be Surfer Rosa...
