They've been poaching people from all over including a Granada Tonight presenter and a producer from the same.
It's worth remembering that prior to the BBC launching its Arabic TV service, the beeb had a deal to train Al Jazeera journalists. All this came under the World Service so is funded (and approved) by the Foreign Office, not the license payer.
